2007-2008 Facilitator Utilization

In 2009-10, 98% of the facilitators who bid, and were available, had an opportunity to facilitate at least once during the GSB School year. Seven bidding Experienced Facilitators facilitated two times. 35 different facilitators were hired to fill 48 course openings. 42 different facilitators bid. One facilitators did not have an opportunity to facilitate because of lack of opportunities.

The 48 facilitator opportunities in 2009-10 were staffed accordingly:

31% of opportunities were filled G-Staff Group (15/48). 15 priority opportunities were allocated to this group (2 more than in 2008-9).

  • 9-slots were filled by Leadership Coaches
  • 6-slots were filled by Senior Facilitators

44% of opportunities were filled G-Exp Group (21/48). 21 priority opportunities were allocated to this group that were filled by 14 different facilitators. Three experienced facilitators who bid, upon acceptance of their bid, choose to pass. One experienced facilitator bid was not accepted because of lack of opportunity.

  • 21-slots were filled by Experienced Facilitators

25% of opportunities were filled by G-FiT group (12/55). 12 priority opportunities were allocated to this group. Three Facilitators in Training (FiT) facilitators who bid, upon acceptance of their bid, choose to pass.

  • 6-slots were filled by participants in 2009 Group Facilitator Training Program
  • 6- slots were filled by Facilitators in Training (post GFTP, less 3x facilitated)

 Comparison: In 2009-10 44% of the opportunities were filled by Experienced Facilitators, compared to 29% in 2008-09. In 2009-10, 25% of the opportunities were filled by Facilitators in Training compared to 47% filled in 2008-09. This shift is accounted for by the fact no GFTP was offered in 2009-10. When looking at Staff Hired remember 2008 was the first year Senior Facilitators were employed. They account for 6 opportunities each year.

2008-2009 Utilization Table

Categories

  • Guest - no guest facilitators.
  • LC - Stanford Leadership Coaches. This group has priority utilization because of their experience and cost savings.
  • SrF- Senior Facilitator (2 facilitators hired to facilitate and read each quarter)
  • GFTP 09 - these facilitators are completing their 09 GFTP Training Year
  • FiT- Facilitators in Training includes, 1) post GFTP facilitators in their first year and 2) returning facilitators who have yet to complete two trainings post GFTP. The goal is to pair FiTs with a Leadership Coach or Experienced Facilitator.  Effective Utilization of FiTs also has a cost saving for the GSB.
  • Exp - Experienced Facilitator, any one who has facilitated more than three times and paid $3000.
  • No Op - facilitators who were selected to facilitate but passed on the opportunity.
  • Facil - Hired at least once to facilitate. columns in red, not hired to facilitate
  • G-FiT is developmental category including GFTP, FIT, and returning facilitators who have not facilitated in the last 4 years.
  • G-Exp include: All present and past Experienced facilitators
  • G-Staff include: Leadership Coaches and Senior Facilitators
  • Note: No NTL bidding facilitators are included in this count

Facilitators Selection Process

Active Facilitators will be given first priority in this sequence

  1. All staffing decisions are at the discretion of the Faculty member teaching the respective section. These variables will guide Faculty staffing decisions.
  2. Facilitators in Training (FiT) who have completed the GFTP within 12 months are given priority placement and pairing with a Leadership Coach or Experienced Facilitator. Each years class of interns are given an opportunity to compete a year of facilitation and training and advance to and Experience level.
  3. Returning Facilitators in Training increase their chance of placement if they have completed a Developmental Training in the last year.
  4. Stanford Leadership Coaches will have priority placement based on their scheduled availability.
  5. Experienced Facilitators (Exp) will be paired with 'Facilitators in Training' and other Experienced Facilitators according to Faculty assessment, taking into account these variables in this sequence 1) male-female teams, 2) diversity, and 3) balanced opportunity across all bids.
